Powering the Skill India Initiative

Published 5 years ago by Saurabh Kathuria
For the uninitiated, Skill India is a campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Damordardas Modi on 15 July 2015 which aim to train over 40 crore ( 400 million) people in India in different skills by 2022. It includes various initiatives of the government like “National Skill Development Mission”, “National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, 2015”, “Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)” and the “Skill Loan scheme”. To achieve the ambitious goal set up by the government, several training service providers have partnered with NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation) and have been doing commendable work on the ground. Some of the notable names include NIIT Foundation, Magicbus, Ruralshores, and QUEST Alliance skilling over thousands of young Indians on a variety of skill sets and thereby making them more employable.

We are proud to be associated with this mission and have been helping companies like NIIT Foundation, RuralShoresQuestAlliance, and Trinity Skill Works manage their students’ entire life cycle using our flagship product MindScroll— a new age digital learning and assessment platform.

“MindScroll makes it easy for training partners to manage training records for each student — right from registering students, capturing their demographic details, payment status, learning progress, attendance records, assessment scores and placement status.”
Currently, we have 50,000+ students logging onto our platform on a daily basis and learning a range of skills like Basic IT, Hardware Networking, Social Networking, Spoken English and Personality Development to name a few. Cumulatively, over 1000+ hours of learning content with 1 Mn+ assessments have been delivered via our platform over last 12 months or so.

So, how do Training Partners use MindScroll platform to scale and optimize their training operations?

Manage all system of Records — MindScroll, with its in-built assessment engine and discussion forum, not only provides all feature of a learning platform but also acts as a mini-ERP solution which can be used to store and maintain all system records like user records, center records, financial records (fee and invoices), and inventory records. All the learning features of the platform like course management, user management, content library, discussion forum help training service providers to deliver standardised learning across geographically distributed centres. The learners, on the other hand, gets easy access of quality content on their hand held devices and are now able to get certified on a range of skills.

“Our Assessment Engine works even at a regular 2G network speed (50 Kb/s — 25o Kb/s) which makes conducting tests even at remote locations possible. A staggering 45.6% of all traffic comes from mobile devices.”

From a broader perspective, Skill India is probably the most important initiative in these times with a young and fast growing workforce. The skills and employability of the 250 million young people joining the workforce over the next decade is crucial for the nation to reap the benefits of demographic dividend.

With increased focus from government, improving infrastructure, increasing internet penetration and mobile data usage, we feel we are on the right track and are hopeful that education and training will reach to the remotest corner of the country. The role of digital learning platfrom that works beyond the boundaries of tier-1 towns will be crucial and that is what we aim to build at MindScroll.
